break the cycle be positive

By Zach Kratzsch | August 21, 2019 | 4 Ways to Keep a Positive Attitude

Developing a positive attitude isn’t just new age “mumbo jumbo.” Being more positive, and grateful for what we have can have both physical and mental benefits. In fact, research from Indiana University, Bloomington discovered that when we’re more positive, thinking about the good things in life and what we appreciate, it stimulates the calming part of the nervous system. In turn, it results in protective benefits such as higher levels of “feel-good” hormones like oxytocin and lower cortisol levels.

The difficult part can be maintaining that positive attitude during stressful situations, such as losing a job, going through a divorce or finding your ideal new home among the St. Louis houses for sale, only to lose it to another buyer.

It's not always our fault that our stress are through the roof, but it is our fault if we don't do everything within our ability to manage them. here are some great ways to start.

Write in a Gratitude Journal

Gratitude journals have become increasingly popular, and for good reason. By writing down a list of positive events that happen each day it can significantly reduce stress levels, decreasing anxiety and providing a sense of calm so that you can sleep better too. It helps you to cultivate a more positive attitude so that you can calmly handle those difficult situations that we all inevitably face.

many successful people have notoriously wrote things down, i recently started my own productivity journal in order to stay on task with important things of the week and too take notes of the small breakthroughs and events that happen everyday as well as small lessons learned from them so that i can look back on my past progress and improve my productivity and positive outlook as i move forward.

Pay Attention to Your Breath

You may have noticed that you tend to hold your breath when you’re anxious or angry. Even when you aren’t, there’s a good chance you aren’t breathing properly, which can lead to a more negative outlook and a poor mood. Numerous studies have shown that just a few minutes of deep breathing every day can help keep you calmer as breathing deeply allows the body to fill with oxygen, triggering feel-good endorphins and improving circulation. That provides a greater sense of peace and well-being.

By paying attention to your breath throughout the day, you may be able to instantly transform a grumpy mood into a more positive one. Aim to breathe from your belly rather than your chest. You may want to take a few minutes to practice deep breathing each day as well – just before bedtime is a great way to encourage a better night’s rest.

Different forms of meditation revolve around breathing techniques as its known that by controlling your breathing you are to be able to control your heart rate as well as clear the mind. Simply focusing on your breaths is a small form of meditation we can all try everyday to alleviate our minds at times of stress.

Use More Positive Words When Describing Your Life

The words you use to describe your life are powerful – how you talk about it is how your life will be. If you describe it as stressful, chaotic or boring, that’s how you’ll perceive it, and you’ll literally feel the effects in both your body and mind. Instead, use words such as “lively,” “engaged,” “involved” or “simple.” It is important to think positive no matter how negative some situations may seem.

Find the Humor in Challenging Situations

In just about every situation, no matter how challenging, there is a way to find the humor in it. Try to remind yourself that at some point in the future, it will make for a good story later. Every time you can do that, you win. Of course, that doesn’t mean finding humor in tragedy or trauma, like a death. There are some situations that call for giving yourself time to grieve. This is more about the obstacles we face at work or in life, and how we navigate our way through them. At the same time, death can actually remind us how to live – it’s funny that it can take a river of tears for us to learn how to swim in a sea of laughter.
